OS has produced a new walking map of Edinburgh to act as the perfect companion to discover the city’s dramatic views and thrilling past.
The Walk Edinburgh urban map is designed for both staycation day trippers and natives of the capital.
It sets out step-by-step guides for three wonderful walks that take in Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, beautiful green spaces and surprising treasures.
Three featured walks:
- Enjoy the famous Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile;
- Hike up Arthur’s Seat via lesser trodden paths and Holyrood Park and Calton Hill without having to climb any steps;
- Meander along 12kms of the Water of Leith as it shadows the river past the Royal Botanic Gardens out to the sea;
OS Leisure Managing Director Nick Giles said: “Walk Edinburgh is our pocket guide to discovering a magical city.
“It is crammed full of stories, legend and historical fact to tempt map readers down tucked away alleys or up to hidden beauty spots for incredible views.
“It is not only suitable for tourists walking around Edinburgh for the first time – it’s got so much detail that it is ideal for residents staying at home this summer who want to see their city in a different way.
“The walks are also accessible to all – there are no difficult steps along any of the routes to negotiate that might ruin it for wheelchairs or pushchairs.”
Nick added: “Plus it makes the most of Edinburgh’s fantastic green spaces, as this city has more trees per head than anywhere else in the country.
“It is a way to discover a new kind of urban exploration.”
Walk Edinburgh is pocket sized and folds out to display illustrated mapping on both sides.
All three walks are described by numbered points of interest along the way.
Walk Edinburgh is available now for £9.99 from the OS online shop.
