Your request has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR).

A copy of your request is set out in the extract below:

“For the period 1-April-23 to 31-March 2024, we please require disclosure of: -

  1. The grid Electricity kwh’s consumed & the £-value spent (excl-vat).
  2. The natural Gas kwh’s consumed & the £-value spent (excl-vat).”

Our response

I confirm that Ordnance Survey does hold the information you have requested.

Taking each request in turn, I confirm the following:

For the period 1-April-23 to 31-March 2024, I confirm:

1. The grid Electricity kwh’s consumed & the £-value spent (excl-vat).

OS Head Office at Explorer House:

Grid electricity consumed: 3,571,000 kwh.

Cost: £801,637.00.

Geovation Hub:

Grid electricity consumed: 50,736 kwh.

Cost: £22,848.13 (excluding VAT).

2. The natural Gas kwh’s consumed & the £-value spent (excl-vat).

Only applicable for OS Head Office at Explorer House:

Natural gas consumed: 274,063 kwh.

Cost: £15,862.00.

Internal review

Your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. The Internal Review Officer will not have been involved in the original decision. They will conduct an independent internal review and will inform you of the outcome of the review normally within 20 working days, but exceptionally within 40 working days, in line with the Information Commissioner’s guidance.

The Internal Review Officer will either: uphold the original decision, provide an additional explanation of the exemption/s applied or release further information, if it is considered appropriate to do so.
