This Freedom of Information request asks for contract and other information about our WAN, LAN and internet connectivity services.

Thank you for your email of 10 February 2023, requesting information from Ordnance Survey in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000, as set out in the extract below:

“a. Who provides your WAN and internet connectivity and the annual spend on each

b. Who provides your SIP trunks and what is the annual spend

c. Who provides your WAN services, is this MPLS, SD WAN or Internet, and what is the annual spend

d. Who provides your LAN infrastructure and what is your annual spend

e. Who provides your WIFI infrastructure and what is your annual spend

f. Please confirm the manufacturer(s) of your wired network core and edge switching?

g. When was your core network installed?

h. Has it been updated subsequently?

i. Who maintains your core network?

j. When is the contract renewal date?

k. Please confirm value of the initial project?

l. Please confirm the value of annual support/maintenance services (in £)?”

Our response

I confirm that Ordnance Survey does hold some of the information you have requested. Where the information is not held this is stated.

Taking each request in turn, I confirm the following:

d. Who provides your LAN infrastructure and what is your annual spend

I confirm the following vendors provide our LAN infrastructure:

  • Cisco,
  • Checkpoint, and
  • F5.

LAN services are provided as part of the BreakFix Contract. It is not possible to separate out the actual annual spend on LAN from this contract. The total contract value is £864K over 3 years (annual spend £288K per year).

e. Who provides your WIFI infrastructure and what is your annual spend

Cisco Meraki wireless infrastructure.
The total value of the contract is £12K over 3 years (annual spend £4k per year)

f. Please confirm the manufacturer(s) of your wired network core and edge switching?

h. Has it been updated subsequently?

No, currently running a stable supported release of software and hardware.

i. Who maintains your core network?

The OS Network Operations team

j. When is the contract renewal date?

13th February 2027

k. Please confirm value of the initial project?

£161k

l. Please confirm the value of annual support/maintenance services (in £)?

The annual support/maintenance services are built into the original contract which is valued at £16k over the 5 year contract. (£3,200 per year)

Internal review

Your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. Please include the reference number above. You may request an internal review where you believe Ordnance Survey has:

  • Failed to respond to your request within the time limits (normally 20 working days)
  • Failed to tell you whether or not we hold the information
  • Failed to provide the information you have requested
  • Failed to explain the reasons for refusing a request
  • Failed to correctly apply an exemption or exception

The Internal Review Officer will not have been involved in the original decision. They will conduct an independent internal review and will inform you of the outcome of the review normally within 20 working days, but exceptionally within 40 working days, in line with the Information Commissioner’s guidance.

The Internal Review Officer will either: uphold the original decision, provide an additional explanation of the exemption/s applied or release further information, if it is considered appropriate to do so.

If, following the outcome of the internal review you remain unhappy with our response, you may raise an appeal, within three months of receiving our response, with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
